We
have created a disposable society, where still useful items are
discarded on a regular basis. Worse than discarding, instead of looking
for a lost or forgotten object it is just replaced. Examples of this
are ballpoint pens, nail files, matchbooks and lighters.
Today, we place such a low value on objects that we don't seem to care
if we loose it, as it is often a duplicate or instantly replaceable.
I believe that these objects tell an interesting story about our time
and place. Taking pictures of these items, recording their locations
and conditions, provides a record of our time through the seemingly
insignificant.
I am cataloging lost shoes, ballpoint pens and other fungible items as
important artifacts.
There's a lot of it out there, so I am enlisting others in the
recording of our discarded history. That means you, too, can
participate in remembering the forgotten. It is very simple to
participate. In your day to day travels, be aware of these forgotten
objects in your path. When you find a piece of matter out of place,
something that to the untrained eye appears to be trash, take the
attached form to record and then send to MOOP at gypsyartist dot org.
